My dad raised me to believe the Beatles were “a bad british imitation of the Beach Boys,” who were, in his estimation, the greatest band of all time. I vividly remember the day my mom had “the big talk” with me and gave me a Beatles tape for my 14th birthday. Something to the effect “Son, it’s time you knew the truth. Listen to the Beatles.”

Still love me some Beach Boys, though. And apparently so did ABBA, Andy Gibb, and Olivia Newton-John.

Finally watched this. You may well have stumbled upon a record of the absolute birth of human de-evolution. When Andy Gibb finds himself on a stage, or in any setting, playing the role of Shimmering Beacon of Musical Aptitude, it is truly zero hour for mankind. I know his death was reportedly an accident, but after seeing this, I’d like the case re-opened. How did the world not end the moment the last note of Barbara Ann was sung? I expect the “In Search Of” music to start any second, following by a shot of Leonard Nimoy in a turtleneck. This could be the single most unlistenable 4+ minutes in history. I love it.
